[DSL] CIR -something you should Notice and ask for !

CIR (Committed Information Rate)

This is a number that your provider will guarantee as a minimum level of service at any time. For example, you have a state of the art top speed 7mbps ADSL connection. And your CIR is 128k. Are you happy? not really..

Note.. DSL is typically oversold by Internet Service Providers, much like Frame Relay. Many ISPs do not permit the customer to choose their level of service, simply giving the customer whatever is available and claiming that they are providing a specified level of service..

so the 256 Kbps or 1 MB ..this is not your 24/7 speed ..it varies up and Down and we should know how much and what is the minimum rate and CIR is telling us about that …

Hope this benefit ..
